Already married and looking for a way to capture your love story? Anniversary photos are perfect for you! Anniversary photo sessions are a sweet way to celebrate your many years together. Plus, it commemorates your love in the current season of life. Being together and choosing to wake up every day and love each other is an accomplishment – whether its 5, 10, 20, or 50 years!
Ajsha and John flew out to Colorado to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary! While they were enjoying their trip, they hired me to capture their anniversary photos to commemorate their trip and 20 years together. We decided on Garden of the Gods as their location because it offers such a unique, rocky backdrop for their photos. They describe themselves as “a mix of chill and bougie,” and they wanted both of those personality traits reflected in the photos! So you’ll see a mixture of candid, striking, and dramatic poses in their photos.
During their session, we took our time exploring the park and talking about their incredible 20 years together, all while being in awe of the surroundings. They were both super fun to work with! John was hyping Ajsha up the entire time. He often wanted me to take a photo of just her (rather than them together)! They also danced to one of their favorite songs on an overlook together. I love it when my couples fully embrace their personalities during sessions and can just be themselves! It makes the photos that much sweeter because nothing feels too forced or unnatural.
For this anniversary adventure session, they booked me for 3 hours (rather than the typical 1.5 hours) so we could explore numerous areas of the park. Longer sessions, like theirs, really allow for a lot more variety, exploration, and deeper storytelling. I really love having time to slow down and capture more candid moments! Also, since we did this shoot mid-morning, the Garden of the Gods was a little busy (usually I recommend sessions here at sunrise). But we worked the harsh lighting to our advantage, playing with the dramatic shadows against the rocks created by the light. All of these elements really added to the vibe they were going for!
During our session, they both had an outfit change into more wedding attire for the second portion. Ajsha and John told me they couldn’t afford a wedding photographer for their big day 20 years ago. So they said that these would, in a way, “be their wedding photos.” Which is another reason they wanted to take anniversary photos. Such an honor to capture these memories for them!
Documenting stories of love and connection makes my heart beat hardest, and it would be an honor to photograph yours. To me, this is much more than taking your photo, I am here to put your experience at the forefront and allow you the space to let loose and feel genuinely you. Let’s create something magical together that will preserve your milestone in an authentic and celebratory way that will last years to come.
